🌟 First Five Lenten Stoles Now Live!
Check out this limited drop of five purple stoles, perfect for the Lenten season.
Hey there!
I'm excited to share some fantastic news with you: The first five stoles of my Lenten Ready-to-Wear Stole Collection just went live, and guess what? You're the very first to know about it!
This limited drop includes 5 purple stoles, handpicked exclusively for my email subscribers (that’s you!) and only advertised right here. Whether you're a church leader, a public theologian, a fabulous gift giver, or just someone who loves a good stole, I think you're going to like what’s in store.
Plus, this limited preview is just the beginning. The full collection contains 21 beautiful stoles, mostly in those classic Lenten purples, but with a sprinkle of other seasonal shades too. Most of the purples were lovingly hand-dyed by yours truly, and what makes them even more special? Many of these beauties come from upcycled fabrics donated by generous churches and amazing supporters of my work. They’ll be available soon, so stay tuned!
Oh, and maybe my favorite part? I've rolled out a brand new, equity-based sliding scale pricing model to make sure everyone can get their hands on these gems. All the details on that are below (scroll down!) and on my website. If you have questions about navigating that, don’t hesitate to reach out at info@molliedonihe.com.
And hey, no need to stress about shipping. My lovely studio assistant (aka my spouse who is always generous with his offers to drive my orders to the post office) and I have got you covered with same-day or next-day shipping, so if you order soon, you'll have your purple stole ready to don before the weekend hits.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your interest in and support of my work. Dive into the preview drop whenever you're ready, and let me know what you think!
p.s. There are some design challenges with the way this info and these pricing options all fit on my website. I’m working on making it a better user experience, but for now, it may feel a bit clunky. Just a heads up!
Sliding Scale Pricing
I am thrilled to announce the launch of my brand new sliding scale pricing model for this ready-to-wear stole collection. This equity-based approach aims to strike a beautiful balance between compensating myself for my labor and keeping my work accessible to folks in my community.
In working on this, I was heavily inspired by the model of Victoria van der Laan, who is not only an incredible artist but also an ardent striver toward more equitable access to art. I reached out to her for permission in using some of her framework in my own pricing model, which she enthusiastically offered. I can’t get enough of what she’s doing and am constantly inspired by her. You can read more about Victoria and her work on her website and on her instagram, where you’ll also find her amazing weekly Pay What You Can offerings.
Here's what you need to know about my new pricing structure:
Three Pricing Tiers: My pricing tiers are determined by self-selection (see “Self Selection Guidelines” below). It's important to note that these tiers are not discounts, but rather the prices I am offering to individuals in different life circumstances. Please consider your own financial situation thoughtfully when selecting your tier. I won’t ask you any questions about your chosen tier, as I trust you to choose the one that's right for you.
How Prices are Calculated: Transparency in pricing is super important to me, so here’s the scoop—my tiers are calculated based on an hourly rate without factoring in the cost of materials. According to the MIT Living Wage calculator, a livable wage in my city for a family of two adults (both working) and one child (which we have on the way!) is $19.68/hour. These ready-to-wear stoles generally take between 4 to 10 hours each to complete. So here are the price ranges for each tier based on the corresponding hourly rates. Keep scrolling for help selecting a tier.
Equity Tier: $72-180 ($18/hr)
Standard Tier: $100-250 ($25/hr)
Supporter Tier: $120-$300 ($30/hr)
Why I'm Doing This: I want to emphasize that I’m doing this because I believe in this pricing model, not because I necessarily have the financial flexibility to offer my work at lower prices. To keep my business values aligned with my personal values, I’m always gonna do my best to prioritize sustainability, accessibility, mutual aid, and reciprocal generosity over profit. Not only does offering a lower priced tier help push back against the inaccessibility rampant in the art world (and in general), but folks choosing a higher tier when they are able helps me to continue doing this work in my little corner of the universe.
Self Selection Guidelines
So how does one go about selecting the tier that best fits their unique situation? Here are some guidelines. Everyone’s financial situation is unique, and you may not fit exactly with all of the descriptors of each category; I’ll invite you to thoughtfully choose which one best fits your situation.
Equity Tier
At this tier, I’m earning $18/hr. Consider this tier if you:
are eligible for public assistance
are burdened with significant medical expenses and/or debt
are a single parent/caretaker of dependent(s)
are an unpaid community organizer
Standard Tier
At this tier, I’m earning $25/hr. Consider this tier if you:
are able to pay your bills with relative ease
do not struggle to meet your basic needs
own a car or have access to reliable transportation
have employer-supplied health insurance or other benefits
Supporter Tier
At this tier, I’m earning $30/hr. Consider this tier if you:
own the home you live in
haven’t checked your bank account before making food/coffee purchases in recent memory
are financially able to travel for leisure
Still a financial stretch?
I do understand that even the equity tier is not affordable for everyone. If you are interested in a stole and are unable to pay the price listed, please reach out to me via email at info@molliedonihe.com. I am always open to payment plans, art exchanges/bartering, and other creative arrangements. It’s hard enough as it is to live under a system of capitalism. I have no desire to be beholden to its rigidity and norms. Let’s work together.
For Churches
I’m still figuring out how to get this pricing tier translated to congregations. If you’re interested in making a purchase from a congregational budget, for now, choose the tier that feels right to you. Here are some things to think about in comparison to what you know of other churches:
How many staff members does your church employ? (e.g. if your church employs one pastor with limited benefits at perhaps lower than a living wage, choose the equity tier. 2 or more full-time staff? Please consider the supporter tier.)
How many people do you have in your congregation?
What is your operating budget?
If you have questions about how you may fit into this, reach out! And if you have thoughts about how this breakdown could apply on a congregational scale, send me your ideas. I’d love to make this description more robust.
Thank You!
Thank you for being part of this community, and I hope this new pricing model resonates with you as much as it does with me.
Lots of love,
Mollie
